Hello! My name is Norma. I would like to offer you a very warm welcome to my blog. Having a home which you enjoy living in is very important. After all, you spend a lot of your life at home. When I retired, I decided I was going to make my home into a palace. I called in a team of building and garden contractors and planned out the changes I would like to make. I am so pleased with the result of the work, I decided I would start this blog so I could continue to explore my new found passion.

Two affordable ways to improve your home's appearance

You don't need to spend a small fortune in order to improve your home's appearance. Here are two affordable ways to spruce up your property.

Buy some custom curtains

One very effective and fairly inexpensive way to alter your home's appearance for the better is to replace your ready-made curtains with custom curtains.

The reason for this is as follows: the quality and style of the curtains in a room can have a dramatic impact on its overall appearance.

Unfortunately, ill-fitting ready-made curtains in colours or designs that clash with a room's other decor can make the space look unkempt and unstylish.

If you buy custom curtains, you can not only choose hues and patterns that complement the other decor in the room but can also ensure that the curtains perfectly fit your home's windows.

The latter is a particularly important point to note if you have unusually long, short or narrow windows and, as a result of this, often struggle to find ready-made curtains that fit them. In this situation, overly wide or short ready-made curtains can end up looking crumpled and untidy.

Create a statement wall

If you're on a budget but want to spruce up a room in your home, you might want to consider creating a statement wall (that is, a wall with a colour or wallpaper pattern that contrasts with the other plain and neutral-coloured walls in the room).

Repainting or wallpapering an entire room can be costly and time-consuming. However, painting or wallpapering a single wall can be done in a couple of days, for very little money.

All you need is either a paint and some brushes, or one roll of wallpaper and a few basic wallpapering tools.

In addition to being very economical, this DIY decor project can also help to give a room a visual focal point and in doing so, can make it less bland and generic.

It's a particularly good option for any of the smaller rooms of your home as it can allow you to incorporate some bold colours or striking patterns into the space without making it look too visually 'busy' (too much of a pattern or vibrant colour can sometimes make a small room look even smaller).

Finally, a statement wall is also effective at drawing attention to a room's best features (such as, for example, an ornate old fireplace) and drawing the eye away from a room's less appealing characteristics.
